About

Hello there! I'm Texys Mahaffey, a passionate high schooler immersed in the vibrant world of creativity, innovation, and fashion. Currently enrolled at Shorecrest Preparatory School, I'm pursuing my the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) certificate program.

Within the STEAM curriculum, I've chosen the art track as my pathway to express ideas, problem solve, and spark change. The art of fashion isn't just about aesthetics and clothes for me, it's a powerful medium through which I can delve into current issues facing our world today.

As part of my STEAM class journey, I've embarked on a personal project where I was prompted to identify a real-world problem and align it with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as well as the Art track.

My personal project, Aspire Attire is focused on providing impoverished teens affordable and accessible clothing. Teenagers from low income environments do not have access to clothing which leads to societal issues such as insecurity and outcasting within their community. By solving this problem teens of all living conditions will have adequate clothing enacting better wellbeing and health along with equality within society.

By intertwining my passion for creativity with a commitment to global progress, I'm dedicated to using my skills to contribute refurbished clothing impoverished teens within St. Petersburg to enable self expression and prevent societal outcasting.

STG Goal and Track Connection

Good Health & Wellbeing

Teens from poor living conditions and poverty will not only be provided adequate clothing but also clothing that is not estranged from society. With these implications put into place childrens wellbeing with positivly improve as they will not feel insecure about their self worth. Health wise, teens will have accessibility to clothing for every harsh weather condition.

Responsible Consumption & Production

In regards to this UN SDG, I want to disarm the idea of fast fashion and brand culture, which is the buying of more unsustainable clothes and disposing of them faster, resulting in pollution waste, underpaid and child labor, environmental issues, and societal outcasting. Regarding this, fast fashion is one of the main problems of irresponsible consumption and production regarding clothing waste and accessibility. Lastly, trends fluctuate leaving less fortunate children with unpopular apperal taking away thier sense of belonging.
